It's early days I know but after DS (2.2yrs) kept getting his knees wedged in his cot bars etc. we decided it was time to 'release him' into a bed (3 nights ago). However, at bedtime (7:30pm) as soon as we leave the room he gets up. We tell him to go back to bed, lie down etc. and he will but then once again as soon as you're gone he's up again, opening the door looking out.... Arghhhhh! After 2hrs of this tonight I finally sat with him until he fell asleep which he did after 15 mins as was shattered. But I don't want him to get used to needing me to go to sleep.... He WAS good at going to bed when in his cot....

Any tips or do you just have to keep telling them....and hope eventually they learn ?

tell him that unless he stays in his big boy's bed, like a big boy, he's going back into the cot
if this makes no difference, follow through... and try again in six months
it could be he is just too small to resist the temptation, or maybe the space is a bit intimidating

Sticker reward charts worked well for us.

you just have to keep putting them back in the bed
it took about 3 weeks to make the transition with my 2 year old

Agree with theblonde - just keep putting him back, even if you have to do it a hundred times! What about buying him a new teddy for the new bed?

Hi i have twins, and we bought them beds a month before they turned two, it took us about 4 hours to get them to sleep for a few weeks, we were going insane, but one day the novelty just wore off, you just have to percervere, they will get used to it
