Hi,
Hoping you all have some words of wisdom as struggling with what to do next!

My 21 month old keeps getting up in the middle of the night and then staying awake for 1-2 hours.

He goes to bed at 7pm, wakes at around 6am and the has a nap for 1-2 hours around midday.

He doesnt have problems napping or settling at night its just that he wants to be active in the middle of the night when he should be sleeping.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to get him back sleeping through the night or is this a usual phase?

Hoping to get a good nights sleep sometime soon!

Thanks :)

Both of mine have done this, DD1 at 8 mo and DD2 at 20mo. I think it’s just a phase. Does it happen when he’s had a good 5-6 hours sleep? If so I think the problem is that he rouses, feels relatively well rested and thinks it’s time to get up. There’s then no getting him back to sleep until the need to sleep builds up again after around 2 hours. In my experience there isn’t a lot you can do other than wait it out. Are you at least able to doze a bit if you bring him into bed with you?
