13 month old abysmal sleep

My son has always been a terrible sleeper. It seems to have got worse as he gets older. When he was around 6 months he'd wake at 3am and we'd bring him into bed because he just wouldn't settle no matter what and I was hallucinating with lack of sleep by that point. From around 9 months he had co slept with us from around 11pm. I would put him down around 7pm he'd sleep in his cot until 11ish (He would be up and down though between 7 and 11 around 7/8 times some nights). We went on holiday when he was 1 so sleep routines were pushed back about 2 hours and we fully co slept. We came home and he had his injections the next day (11 days ago).

Last Sunday I put him in his cot awake because he was really wriggly. To be absolute shock, he went to sleep holding my hand after around 50 minutes. He woke up once or twice and would eventually be brought into our bed but I was just so over the moon that he'd fallen asleep in his cot! Roll on to last night when he fell asleep in his cot but woke and hour and a half later and screamed the house down until he came into our bed. Tonight, he went down and fell asleep in his cot at 20 past 7 and at 7.40 he's screaming the house down. I was so happy with how things were going it felt like a big progress and now we're back to square one. I'd finally started to enjoy having more than 1 hour to myself. Has anyone got any "gentle" tips? Experience? Is it likely due to the injections? (I know a rash can come out 10 days after, he's got a slight rash on his tummy which I believe is related).

Just feeling a bit disappointed and tired.

Honestly cosleeping wont be forever you’re not going to be stuck with a child in your bed, do what gets your through. I have always coslept with my 19 month old but I put her to bed early evening and stick the monitor on. She used to wake every 20-40-60 mins and I’d have to resettle her. Frustrating but I went with it, she has just started to go all the way through and it’s bliss. It WILL come - they get there on their own, they’re programmed to need us near them at night time.

That sounds similar to us. I was ok with our situation. I think what's got me annoyed is that he was doing so well falling asleep in his cot and now it seems like we've gone several steps backwards!

That's just baby sleep.

It gets worse as well as better :(
