Toddler bed or single bed?

Hey experienced mums of toddlers, we're bed-sharing/co-sleeping with our almost 2,5 yr old son but baby number 2 is coming in July and I'm keen that my toddler starts sleeping in his bed!

He is a tall boy who loves a lot at night. Now my incredibly boring question is should we go for a toddler bed (standard 70x140) or a single bed with bed guards? He has a small bedroom but should be big enough for a single bed.

Also he's never really slept in his cot so would a single bed be too much of a jump? This said he's used to big king size Grin.

Or should I get a second hand toddler one as a trial and then move to a single bed?

Aaargghhh help and advice please xx

I went straight to a single bed with ds, to me toddler beds seem like quite a waste of money for the limited time they are used for.

Single bed all the way. Toddler beds are a gimmick

Other bonus of a single is you can lie with them while they drop off if needed!

Single bed if you have space, as it will last much longer and you will only need to buy one mattress, one lot of bedding etc.

DD1 always slept in a full size cot which can convert to a toddler bed, but we never have converted it. She is 3, very tall and has recently gone straight from cot to single bed (with a pull out truckle bed underneath for visitors). Reason being, DD2 (7m) needs the cot.

When DD2 is older we will convert the cot to toddler bed for her because her room is small and looks like she's not going to be as tall as her sister, but if I was going out and buying a bed, I would go straight for a single x
