Nursing to sleep 8.5months - how to do i make a change? Help!

So my DS is almost 9 months and is weaned (three meals a day) plus breast fed 3-4 times daily. He has only ever been breast fed to sleep for naps and at night. He does fall asleep in the car & pram.

Sleep has never been good. We were hit hard by 4m sleep regression and reflux. We wake now 4 times at night. Sometimes a little patting or rubbing his back can get him back to sleep, but more often than not this fails (ie wakes, crying) and ends up on my boob.

  1. Any tips to break this?
  2. I'm keen to break this cycle as return to work in 3m and I plan to stop BF (I'm happy with this)
  3. Work on bedtime or naps first?

Hello. We are in similar boat, I managed to stop feeding to sleep by cuddling/rocking until she is pretty much asleep. I made sure that I did the same bedtime routine every night, also do same for naps, and breastfeed then bring her upright and sway/sing until drowsy then into cot. She accepts bum patting too as an alternative way of going to sleep :) we changed everything quite gradually. She still wakes up all the time haha! Good luck :)

First of all good luck! I haven't managed this yet...

Before I returned to work, I got DD in the habit of having naps without BF, as this is what she'd be doing. I had to do this in pram/car as she wouldn't be put down by me as she knew there was an Lternative. My mum usually still takes her out in the pram, but with DH and at nursery she will now just lie down to sleep, if a little later than she will drop off with a feed.

I still feed DD to sleep at bedtime and now for some naps if I am home and want a cuddle! So I'm afraid I don't have bedtime tips. I'll be watching this thread as I wouldn't mind eliminating the bed time feed when winter comes round.

I moved the bed time feeds for both my dds down stairs at this age to stop them falling asleep on the boob. Tv on and lots of noise.
Then i would take her up to bed.. teeth stories and in to cot. Then would go in and out every few mins reassuring and laying her back down with her comforter. Yes they kicked off but after a few days of this they figured out how to go to sleep without boob.

I've now managed to get most naps to not involve boob by popping in the pushchair or timing car journeys.

I can get him to sleep in the evening with cuddles/ singing after boob if he's not too tired but it's hit or miss.

He still wakes several times and much as I would love not to have to feed in the night so I didn't have to do all the wake ups, it's the best way for us all to sleep

He's 13mo

Well we're in two wake ups so far and this hot weather isn't helping! I shush/patted him for first wake up, but resorted to boob for second. Tried shush/pat, then cuddle, gentle strokes of face that I normally do and even a cup of water. Zilch. Boob it is 😩😴🙈 xxx
