Issues with naps and the heat

Hi everyone I’m really struggling at the moment with the heatwave.

I can pick up the tiredness cues at rock baby to sleep but then I don’t know what to do with her as she won’t even sleep on me as it’s so hot!

So I hold her/put her down in sleepyhead/bed/swing and age is awake again within 10-15 minutes. So I am spending a lot of time rocking her in this heat and making us both hot.

She has recently learnt to self settle at night with her thumb. I have got some blackout blinds and I’m hoping this is might help her do the same in the day.

I’ve just had a terrible day, we can’t afford air conditioning and I just don’t know what to do.

Any advice would be useful.

Self settling with thumb sucking is what cracked naps for us - I was also rocking her to sleep for naps before and doing the precarious put down once asleep!

I just started putting her in her sleep bag, making it dark with blinds and putting Ewan on then sitting by the cot and reading a story in a hushed voice and she started putting her thumb in and going to sleep on her own.

There was a transition period when is start doing this but then she’s get frustrated and I’d end up rocking her anyway but we don’t have to do that any more. That wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t given her a chance on her own first.

In this heat the least you can touch them the better!

Thank you reverse squigly. I think you’re right. We’ll keep at it.
