Any ideas why DS still wakes 40min after bedtime

So it's not the end of the world (but abit annoying at times) but 9mo still, since the day he was born, wakes 99.9% of the time exactly 40min after bedtime. It doesnt matter if hes over tired, under tired, fed, rocked or goes to sleep by himself but he will wake exactly 40min after going to sleep crying his head off and will only settle then with a cuddle and be put back down 98% asleep (enough to roll himself over and zonk) he will then sleep unless teething/ill etc as normal. I appreciate its a sleep cycle but if hes self settled he should be OK?

As I say, it's not the end of the world but does anyone elses babies do this? Its so wierd!!

I have a nearly 7mo who does similar, within 30-60 mins.

I have no idea why, but it tends to be after she’s been fed to sleep and gone straight down rather than having an hour of shouting and then settling. I think she probably just needs to shout out the frustrations of the day and gets annoyed if feeding to sleep deprives her of this opportunity 😊.

Our 7 month old still does this once in a blue moon! He self settles, goes to bed awake, sleeps through the night etc. No idea why this happens. It frightens the life out of me when the monitor goes off! It's generally a sleep cycle length too. Who knows... babies 🤷‍♀️

Same here... it's all sleep cycle related I am told, not that that helps x

My DC are older now, but I remember the exact same thing. Can’t remember what age it stopped but i think it was quite late, maybe 12/14 mo.

No idea either other than as you say one sleep cycle. It was always long enough for him to go down, me to tidy up etc and just be sitting down when he would awaken! After a quick pat he would fall
Back asleep and I’d then know that was him for the night.
Strange.

It doesn’t help you but my dd2 did exactly the same for a good while. She is now just over a year and hasn’t done it for ages. It’s one of those things which drives you bonkers then you can’t remember when they last did it

Jellybabie3 · 22/07/2018 21:59

Ha well thats atleast reassuring! As I say, its no biggy. We've got used to it happening really but as @MonsterKidz said you sit down after tidying and bang, the monitor goes off! So bizarre....its one of those things I will probably strangely miss when it stops!

Thanks all, another thread that makes me feel human hahaha
