My baby goes to bed at 7pm

At 10pm we dream feed him

He is now getting up at about 5/6am

How do I get him to sleep in longer

How old is he?

I don’t think there’s a surefire way to guarantee a late-riser. Some babies just wake up at that time. If he doesn’t wake at all in the night you’re pretty lucky!

angelopal · 18/07/2018 07:52

Unfortunately that is normal. That's 10-11 hours he is doing.

My 10 month old does the same but without the dream feed but is usually closer to 5 than 6.

Ive got a four year old that has woken at 5 since she was tiny. We’ve tried;
Extra blackout blinds
Earlier bedtime/later bedtime
Less naps/more naps/longer naps/shorter naps obv she doesn’t nap now)
A gro clock
And plenty of other things

None of it worked

You can’t usually have them go to bed early and wake late. DD used to wake up at midday, but she didn’t go to sleep till midnight. If you’re dreamfeeding it sounds like your baby is quite young?

Bananarama12 · 18/07/2018 07:55

You can't 😂 he is getting a lot of sleep there!

Kathjax · 18/07/2018 07:55

He’s 5 months xx

Then be grateful for what you are getting!

Bananarama12 · 18/07/2018 07:56

Bloody hell at 5 months I would be thanking my lucky stars he sleeps through with one feed!

TeddyIsaHe · 18/07/2018 08:11

5 months and sleeping through? Dd was up every 2 hours at that age. I’d be grateful for what you’re getting tbh!

I agree with others. that’s fantastic sleep I’d have happily sold my sole for at that stage 😂 it’s very normal for babies to wake early. He still getting a full 10 hours. Everything is a stage, you may find as he gets older and naps less during the day that he sleeps a bit later. However even now at 14 months we have random phases of early wakes for a few days.

It is hard getting up so early tho, let’s face it no one would choose to. To manage it you could go to bed early a few times a week to catch up. Nap when the baby naps during the day if that’s possible? Is there a DP who can take baby first thing in the morning on some days so you can snooze a bit longer?

Kathjax · 18/07/2018 09:23

Thank you all! It’s just strange as when he gets up after I’ve changed him he just wants to go back to sleep in his chair so I’m like why don’t you do that in your bed?

Babies aren’t rational.
