All advice please. I know all little ones have difefrent needs but is it normal for a baby to only want 3 20 mon naps during the day. She will go to sleep in her cot but wakes up after 20 and seems ready for fun and play.

She does sleep for around 11 hrs at night whihch is greta woith one waking for food.

How old is she?? If she's happy with that and doesn't seem overtired or grumpy, then I'd have thought there's no problem!! I'm sure she'll soon let you know if she's not getting all the sleep she needs........

She is 6 mths but does get pretty grumpy

Have you read 'The Baby Whisperer solves all your problems'?? There's some really good ideas about extending naps in there.

My DS is the same age and normally has 3 naps of about 3/4 hr to 1 hr, and one 15 mins nap to get him through till bed time ( not always exactly this though, depends in how our day pans out)

orkmum - I found the same book really helpful for naps too. Mine does 2 - 2.5 hrs in the morning and 1 - 1.5 in the afternoon thanks to this book! Sounds like she's sleeping great at night. I found my lo was happier when her naps got longer btw.

I think she might be sleeping too long now and I want to swap some of that and graft it onto the early mornings (never happy!!!)

Orkmum, my DS will only do 30-min stretches... but can only stay awake 90 mins (he's 3 months) so sometimes has 5 naps a day! I have met LOADS of mums whose babies nap the same so I think it's really common.

I have decided not to worry too much about it 'cause he usually sleeps well at night, and I can't be doing with battlng to keep him asleep all day. I just keep an eye on the clock and make sure after 90 mins awake we're somewhere he can nap, or there's trouble. I read somewhere that half hour nappers will usualy start to go longer around 9 months, but have no idea if that's true...

Thats true with my DS, MegBusset - he only slept for 20-30mins at a time during the day, and normally only had two or three naps - but he's 9 months now and often sleeps for an hour in the morning and an hour or more in the afternoon. We didn't do anything to change his routine - he just changed his naps himself.
