1 year old refusing second nap

My DD turned one today. For the past week she has been resisting her second nap. Im not sure if it is because I messed up her routine by putting her down late for her first nap or if she is really ready to transition down to one nap per day.

I have been busy and started putting her down about 2.5 to 3 hours after she first wakes up.

She usually sleeps between 1.5 to 2 hours for her first nap.

Then about 3 hours later she would go down for her second nap usually for about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Recently she started resisting this nap even though she is tired and only agreeing to sleep about 5 hours after waking up from her first nap. When I allowed her to do this she then didn't fall asleep at bedtime !!!!

Yet when i keep her up she gets terribly tired and has night terrors.

Please help

Ps i have been reading the threads all year but this is my first post

Mine both gave up the second nap at 11 months. I would start to delay the first nap until just before or after lunch

I would start waking her from her morning nap after 1h. Also have the naps at set times. A good example would be:

  • Morning nap 9.30-10.30. Wake her if not awake.

(3h awake time)

  • Lunchtime nap 1.30pm. Aim for 2 hours, so wake her at 3.30pm if not already awake.

Then if the afternoon nap ends with you waking her at 3.30pm, bedtime at 7.30pm (4h awake time). If she wakes from the nap before 3.30pm, make bedtime earlier.
