Evening sleep and co-sleeping...

Looking for some advice or maybe just reassurance!!
My 7 month old is still sleeping on me for naps and in the evenings and then comes up with us about 9.30-10 when we go to bed. It's working for us, mostly, I do find it a little frustrating at times! When he was about 6 months I tried putting him upstairs in his cot at 7 thinking that I could transfer him into bed with us if he woke when we went to bed. Was super happy at first as he settled without feeding, just singing and patting. Unfortunately then he woke so often it was more exhausting running up and down stairs to settle him and meant that he was fully awake and wanting to play a couple of times which rarely happens so we gave up and have him on me again in the evening. What do other people do? I'm getting a little worried that he will expect to be downstairs with us forever if l don't get him into a pattern soon (I know it's silly!) and rarely hear any co sleepers talk about what they do in the evenings! Can't leave him in big bed on his own as he likes to sit up and crawl in his sleep! Feeling like I'm not sure what I'm doing today after getting actually scolded by a doctor for letting him sleep on me!

Do you have a problem with his routine? If not, ignore everyone else's opinions.

How many times have you tried to put him down in his cot at 7?

We co slept with 2 of our 3 DC. DC 1 went to her cot at bedtime and came in to us at 10/11 when she woke.
DC3 was much harder to settle and there were plenty of evenings where he slept on sofa while DH and I ate and watched tv but the aim was to get him in cot or safely in our bed during the evening.
