Up until recently my ds has always had betwwen 1 an 2 hours early afternoon and still gone to bed at about 8. But starting a couple of months ago his bed time started getting later and later, even getting as late as 9.45. and his naps were
getting later in the day so i have tried cutting down his naps. we are now on half an hour if he has one at all. but if he doesn't have one I can't take him out in the car or anything after 4pm. Any suggestions

Not really, DS is much older but if he has a 15 minutes nap he won't go to sleep until 10:00!. When we are in the car I keep talking and talking and talking to keep him awake....

This tends to be what happens around this age usually by 3 they stop falling asleep if you go out in the car etc. Just have to live with it for a few months I'm afraid.

Let him have half an hour then - perfectly normal at his age to need a nap. Ds1 had naps until later than this.

my sisters 4 year old still has a nap almost every day but my dd stopped hers around the age of 3 - although by then she only had between 20mins and an hour.

ds gave up naps at around 2 1/2. When he started, I tried to still let him hav a nap every other day, or one day in three, or something. Didn' last long with ds - he ain't a big fan of sleep

thanks. i don't mind him having a sleep, but most of the time he isn't tired until 3 or 4pm which if i let him have half an hour then its 10pm to bed. If he doesn't have a sleep he is a nightmare and whinges and has even been known to go 'past it'
I might try the every other day.
