Co sleeping with 7 month old

I have been co sleeping with DS now for a few months - it worked well all through sleep regression! I have a next to me crib attached to the bed but he doesn't sleep in that - we use it as a sort of bed guard.
I would like to continue co sleeping. He is still bf and has one or two feeds in the night now. Problem is, he is now just about crawling and sitting up so I know he has outgrown the next to me... what can I use as a bed guard?? All the ones I have seen state not suitable for under 18 months. We sleep in a double bed and DH is in the spare room. Should I just buy an ordinary rail? Wooden or mesh?

Safest thing is to put your mattress on the floor but we used foam wedge bed guards that go under the sheet with both DC.

I’ve taken one side off the cot and pushed the cot against the bed. That way she can sleep in the cot or with me to co sleep.
