Sleeping on the floor...

My 3 and a bit year old has been sleeping fantastically in his big boy bed with only a very few nights he’s got up and played instead of lying down. But the last few nights he’s all of a sudden getting really sad as I say goodnight to him and he gets up and lies on the floor by the door (the handle is too high for him) crying, he then just falls asleep on the floor.

So, do I move him and risk waking him? Or just leave him be?

I would stay with him and comfort him in his bed so that he doesn't fall asleep on the floor trying to get out of his room to crack his mum

Then I'd make sure I leave his door open when I creep away, so that he can come and find me if he needs to in the night.

Thank you for your help. We have the issue of living in a bungalow and our living room is open plan to the hall where his room is (terrible design!) so there’s no chance he’d fall asleep with the door open. I could try staying in his room but I think he’d freak out and not settle, he usually happily sings and chats himself to sleep so me being there might be a massive distraction.

How long does he cry for? If it's more than a couple of minutes I'd go in a sit with him (no talking/eye contact).

If just a couple of minutes then falls asleep then I'd leave him for a while then lift into bed.

Only for a few minutes and I can see on the camera that he is doing his sleepy behaviour - I put a lullaby on and he just lies there stroking his hair listening quietly. But I think if I went in he’d get sad again which I don’t want just for the sake of him being in a bed. I’d never leave him distressed for long.

I'd just leave him at first then, but try to lift into bed later
