Controlled crying

My baby is almost 8 months and has a variety of sleep associations (rocking, patting, holding). She does sleep well at night, but it takes ages to get her there. Recently it's taken hours. We are going to do controlled crying, after failing miserably at gently taking away the rocking etc cycle.

Please no judgement for this, we have waited until she's 7.5 months to do so, and I have read about the disadvantages.

I guess my concern is putting her through the process and nothing really being a success if we do do it. I'd love to know other people's experiences.

We are also going on a short haul holiday the week after we plan to do it - would that disrupt her again?

I did this a week ago with my 7mo as the rocking to sleep was just too much. It took ages and had just stopped working. He didn't really cry, just whinging and I never left for longer than 3 mins every time. Took 45 mins the first night now I need to go in maybe once. When I went in to comfort I ssshhhed him and now he usually falls asleep to that when I first put him down.

Yes, it will. Either do it as soon as possible before you go. Or leave it until you come home.

Quite common at this age
