Baby won’t sleep on his back

Any ideas on how to help my three week old sleep on his back. He is extremely fidgety that he wakes up. He sleeps well in my arms and in his bouncer for a nap. But I’m finding that whenever I lay him down he becomes startled and awakes. He seems to be swallowing a lot too. I’m thinking maybe reflux? I currently have a rocking crib for him. Any ideas on what to do? Incline the mattress? See the go?

This may be controversial (not trying to be) but I laid mine on their side in their Moses basket and stuffed the rolled up sides of the baby blanket either side of them so they couldn't roll onto their front. I worried about them being sick lying on their backs and choking; plus laying them on their sides half awake, I could rub their backs whilst they were laying down and help them get off to sleep. I think is comfier too, tbh.

Sounds like reflux to me. Try tilting the top of the cot up with books etc under base. Are you breast or bottle feeding? Have you tried keeping your LO upright for a while after feeding/winding? Might work. If it continues see your gp maybe.

Swaddle with a giant muslin to keep them feeling snug and stop the startles. Prop the head end of the crib up with a few hardbacked books.

I am bottle feeding due to falling ill with bacterial meningitis shortly after having him. Is it safer to prop the bed up as opposed to the mattress? I always keep him upright after feeding and for about 15-20 mins to allow him to be in a deeper sleep before putting him down. It gets to a point where like now I’m holding him and In finding myself not wanting to put him in the crib as I know he will scream the house down Confused
