won't be left alone in cot

Dd is now going through the night. However, if she wakes up in her cot (which is beside our bed) and realises that we aren't there she goes potty! We then have a choice of spending the rest of the evening upstairs with her, or bringing her down so that we can get on with whatever we were doing. This isn't too bad at the moment as she has a late bedtime, but once she is going to bed earlier this is going to cause problems. Leaving her to cry it out isn't an option. Does anyone have any ideas on dealing with this? She has playtime in the cot during the day and is happy to be left in it, it's only in the evenings that it's a problem.

Have you thought of leaving a piece of your clothing in her cot (she would smell you) and feel re-assured ? Does she have a teddy ? My DD loves her teddy and will cuddle it... then I put her little music on and look at her in a darkened room.... she seems very at peace that way.

Hi, pupuce! Dd has a little elephant that she loves, I hold it between us when we snuggle so it has my scent. I might try a t-shirt though. And we're awaiting delivery of a special lullaby tape from Amazon, so maybe that will do the trick. Thanks for your help!
