At what age did you begin to put your little ones down to sleep in the evening in their cot and not stay with you? So far DS (11 weeks) stays with me in the evening

DS (17 weeks) is still downstairs with us until we go to bed but I'm going to start trying to put him upstairs in the evening when I'm back from holiday when he'll be 19 weeks. I know people who've done it much earlier and others who've waited until 6 months. It's tricky!

8 weeks as he wouldn’t settle downstairs - however at that point we ended up going to bed at the same time, then gradually he went up earlier/we went later.
I’d have kept him down with us until 6 months if he had settled ok downstairs.

I started to put my baby to bed properly at 7pm at around 8 weeks but that was because he was getting hysterical from overtirdeness and needed a quiet, dark room to settle properly. I sat with him (watching films with subtitles/headphones) or reading until he was 6 months to keep in line with the SIDS guidance. Wasn’t much fun to spend my evenings this way but he needed quiet and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him, and it was only short term.
