I'm due to be a first time Mum in August and am starting to think about buying some bits. What did you dress your newborn in for bedtime? Particularly in the summer? We're planning to use a Next To Me to begin with.

Hot weather just a short sleeved vest, warm weather a sleep suit.

Depending on how warm either a sleep suit with no vest or just a vest if it was really warm.

Grobags are great. They have a guide on what to dress baby in depending on the room temperature.

Mine is normally in a baby grow, no vest and a grobag. Only need a vest if it's particularly chilly.

You’ll need sleeping bags and/or blankets as well as putting them in sleep suits/vests.
I’d make sure you get a thermometer for your bedroom and I found grobags easiest as there’s a guide online about what to dress the baby in and what tog gro bag to use. For the summer we used a 1 tog gro bag and then depending on temperature used a long sleeve vest or baby grow.
I found blankets quite stressful as I never knew how many to use etc

When mine was little she had a sheet grobag (1 tog?) and a nappy in the hottest weather. No vest or anything else. I think you need to get to know your baby and find out if they feel the heat or feel the cold or aren't too stressed either way. Mine really feels the heat and will produce a heat rash at temperatures that have me layering up!

I usually have DS in short sleeve vest and sleepsuit (thoughwhen it’s really hot abandon either or both of these!) and then I used cellular blankets when he was a newborn. He wasn’t really wriggly at night unless waking for a feed in which case I would be picking him up anyway, so I didn’t need to worry about him kicking them off in the night. Cellular blankets are super easy to layer up and adjust the warmth depending on the room temperature, I had a groegg and used this guide which I found helpful when I was trying to work out what I was doing! : goo.gl/images/CZ6NA

I wouldn't use a gro bag / sleeping bag for a really newborn. Either vest on it's own, sleepsuit on it's own or vest & sleep suit depending on temperature.

Then a light cellular blanket on top. You can layer a couple when it's cooler, just remember folded in half counts as two layers.

When DS was tiny we used woombies as an alternative to swaddling - I’m sure they’re Australian so were light stretchy material suitable for hot weather. We used a blanket over them when it got colder.

In terms of clothing, newborns nap randomly and spend their time lying down so a sleepsuit or vest is good whether it’s day or night.
In terms of bedding, we found a velcro swaddle for night sleeps got DS to sleep quite a bit better than unswaddled as their little limbs can jerk around a bit. We used that til 4 months.
