Nursery is 25C, DS awake every hour, advice for the temperature please!

My DS has started sleeping 6 hour chunks or so minus some teething. But last 2 nights his nursery has been 25C. Last night he woke every hour or so and would not settle without the boob. Calpol or teething powders didnt help. I believe he could be thirsty? He is refusing a sippy cup so water isnt really an option.

He went to bed in short sleeve vest and 1 tog grobag. I dont have a 0.5 tog. I took it off at one point but he got ratty.

Or a fan?? What are others doing??

Dont use a grobag - really not necessary.

Just a sleeveless bodysuit / vest.

We’ve been using a fan as room is also around 25deg (DS is swaddled and in short sleeve babygrow)
He seems to have slept better than usual with it on! Maybe the noise is helping. It doesn’t seem to drastically cool the room as temperature only drops by a degree or so, but the circulating air definitely helps.

Definitely use a fan, although not aimed directly at him. And either a bodysuit or the grobag not both.

Can you keep the windows open so the temperature drops a bit overnight (with nets over them obviously, and not on nights when it's due to go properly cool)?

Also yy to a big fan. If you have a thermometer and it's showing high humidity in the room, a dehumidifier can help too as the humidity will make the temperatures feel even higher.

No it's not and there's no need to be so rude. New mums are allowed to worry about overheating their babies, especially when it's the first time they've ever had to take care of one during a heatwave. There's weird contradictory advice everywhere about everything.

The whole point of Mumsnet is that mums can ask for common sense help without being judged or mocked.

It's due to cool down again tomorrow Jellie but best to be ready for a hot summer from what I've read!

I've kept the window open all day and kept the shutters closed to try and keep out the sun of the baby's room.

It’s not overthinking to worry about your baby in temps we’re not used to.
I’d say ditch the grobag for sure

She over thinks baby sleep so much .

Of course his thirsty on a hot night ! Like any other person .

Take a layer of is his to hot

What else is to think about

She could think about unhelpful jerks on the internet like you I suppose, but I hope she doesn't.

I've seen a few of your posts now and wish you'd stop endlessly mocking mums. It comes across as very hateful and nasty.

Yeah i do overthink it. But for the record this is about his welfare at night as opposed to his number of hours sleep. Clearly i have asked a stupid question. Thanks for making me feel abit shittier though!

Oi, Crackers, bugger off!
Op, don't bother with a gro bag in the warm weather. I find as they get older (not sure how old your lo is) they turn around more and get a bit twisted in the bags. My dd is 12 months next week and I've just taken her out of her bag and now using a light toddler duvet, she still tosses and turns all night but is waking up less!

And ps, in 25 degrees I would have baby in vest only, or even just a nappy.

Maybe a stupid question but is there a cooler area/room you could put the cot in for summer?

Fan over bowl of ice or air conditioner otherwise with cotton sheet loosely tucked over baby.

25 is miserable to sleep in.

25 really isn't that hot .

Imagine all the babies in Thailand right now where it's 36c at this time.of year .

Op just remove layers .

It's what you get used to though isn't it?

I like a sleeping temp of around 15 degrees ideally and my sleep is affected above 18 deg so I have to use fans then.

In tropical climes I can adjust a bit but choose to stay on the coast and have air con to cope.

Ironically I like warm temp during the day, just struggle with sleeping in hot rooms.

Not really sure the answer you are looking for but I got some good advice last year in the heatwave, keep the curtains closed and the windows open in the day, it will stop the sun heating the bedroom up so much in the day. Our bedroom is in the dormer and gets the full sun in the afternoon and it gets unbearably hot and this really helps! As I say a bit useless for now but if we ever get another glimmer of sun again this summer I hope this helps!
