Hi guys,
Last week we had to take a cot side off of his bed, after he climbed up the side and tumbled over. Obviously I expected the first few nights to be tough as the whole thing is new, but he did better then we thought and we only had one rough night.
Nap times are pretty good, I make his a small drink and he goes to bed drinks and drifts straight off
My partner work 5 nights a week some nights leading into 9-10pm. This hasn't ever really been an issues before he has a pretty fixed routine and has done since he was 6 months, so he knows the score. I always aim to have him in bed at 6:50pm with a bottle and story ready for lights out at 7pm.
Night times are were the games begin... literally. He has recently learnt how to open his bedroom door, so he has a baby gate across to stop him leaving the room. He will come to the door and stand at the gate and as I approach he will laugh and run to his bed. I go in tell him sternly "No, it's bedtime" and lay him in the bed. As soon as I walk out and shut the door and the gate he is out and at the door again. I continue to repeat the sequence but it continues for hours.
However, if my partner is home he will go in and say the same thing and he will stay in his bed and go to sleep. I honestly don't understand it. I'm very firm during the day, to the point I only have to say 'No in a certain way and he instantly stops and/or starts crying. I have tried ignoring him when he isn't the door it didn't work, I have tried no saying anything when I go in it doesn't work.
I'm honestly starting to panic as I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my second and I feel like if I don't get this sorted soon it will be an issue I have once the baby is here.
Any suggestions?
Thanks xx
