What to do when theres no crying?

We did controlled crying last night at DS (11mo) 3am wake up. Well tried to.

There was 3 mins of crying then he just went quiet with little bursts of crying that lasted less than 30 seconds. This went on for 2 1/2 hours before he finally went to sleep. Obviously his cries didn’t last long enough to do intervals so I hardly went in to comfort him.

Is this right? Surely I’m not meant to go in and disturb him if he’s not crying?

I didn’t feed him though, which is a first, so progress there?

Will e eventually drop this feed now that he’s not getting it.

Anyone else had this experience? How many nights of this till they sleep through.

For info, he self settles with me in the room at bedtime but feeds to sleep for naps.
