Separation anxiety and sleep

My DS is nearly 11 months but over the last week, his separating anxiety has started. He screams when I leave the room but it’s affexting his night sleep too (not naps for some reason).

He’s put to bed awake around 7pm but wakes around 3am. After this he won’t settle. He tries to sleep. I stand by his cot and creep out only when I think he’s in a deep sleep. I have to be stroking his head or something so he knows I’m there. I get to bed and bam, he’s awake screaming again. This goes on until 6am. Lots of crying although I try to never leave him. It’s like he senses I’m not in the room even when he’s asleep!

Seriously considering sleep training...anyone got any advice?

I know he is in a leap at the moment...could it be leap related? Can’t be putting up with this in the long term...
