Sleep training - controlled crying

So tonight is the night. Our 13 month old's sleep has been getting worse and he will now only be fed to sleep. I could live with this if he wasn't waking up so frequently and then from 1am refusing to go back in his cot (waking dc1 up in the process). I don't want to co sleep anymore for any portion of the night and am very ready to stop breastfeeding.

The dream is for him to have a cup of milk downstairs before bed (He won't take a bottle) then be put down awake and go the he'll to sleep!! So my question is how much success have people had with cc? If we go in every 2/4/8 mins, do we lie him back down in his cot? How long did it take? Do we do the same for his nap (just gone down to 1 nap very easily)? Is it madness to just stop breastfeeding at the same time? He eats 3 meals and snacks and I'm in no way worried about his food intake, he literally only feeds to get to sleep.

So many questions but I am going slowly insane and have the fear of going back to work and being totally exhausted. Help!!

Never mind - we didn't end up starting this evening. Going to save it for the weekend. Any tips would still be welcomed!

3 nights in and he is sleeping like a dream for 12-13 hours no wake ups! Went in after 2 mins, then 5, then 7, then 10, then 15 (i really just made this up) and i cuddled him for 10 seconds when I went in. But he cried for 20 mins at bedtime the 1st night, then about half an hour at 1am then it just reduced from there. So happy I did it because after the 1st night it has been amazing. And he is on 1 nap now and just sleeping for 3 hours from when i put him down. The dream!

@putdownthetest glad you have had success. I am planning on doing cc tonight after doing it last night in depseration. It worked so will follow through at his 3am wake up tonight.

Only think I’m worried about is going from being breastfed and cuddle to sleep to nothing and being left to cry! Seems so harsh when my DS is going through separation anxiety too.

How did your little one cope from being breastfed straight to nothing?

I am in the same situation so interested to hear others success. We are on night 6, first 3nights.. great! Night 4 on wards it has been hourly wake ups and very upset and stressful trying to settling him in cot.

Night 6 (last night) was 2 hourly wake ups and was quicker to settle. So I'm hoping this is slow progress. I was told it can take up to 2 weeks for it to work. So I'm holding out til then.

My son is and always has been a dreadful sleeper. I co sleep and feed to sleep also, just to get rest myself. But like you, i am fed up with not sleeping properly.

I am glad to hear you've had progress. I hope it continues!! Good luck x

Cc saved my sanity. Like you OP it took 3 nights. I could hardly believe it! I hated the crying but it was so worth it.
