Separation anxiety?

Ds has never been easy to get down to sleep at night but usually stays asleep once he's finally fallen asleep at 9ish. Up until recently dh has done most of the bedtime stuff/walked the floor with him until he settles.

In the last week and particularly the last 2 nights it's all gone pear shaped. Now he won't go to sleep unless I feed him (bf) and he's started waking after an hour and going into absolute meltdown unless I hold him. Daddy won't do.

We'd just chalk this up to yet another phase and ride it out except it's my mum's 60th in 3 weeks time and we were planning to go out with them for a meal leaving ds with a family friend for the evening. I know her very well, she's very experienced with babies and I was perfectly happy leaving ds with her for 3 hours or so until now.

Unless his sleep patterns change over then next couple of weeks he's highly unlikely to be asleep when we leave - that wasn't a problem when I thought he might just refuse to go down for her, we'll be back by 10.30 which isn't abnormally late for him at the moment, but if he cries like he did tonight...

He's 24 weeks - I can at least leave this decision up until the last moment just about. Are things likely to settle again?

maybe get him two longish naps during the day then he could go till half ten. i've done that before with my dd and it worked.

Thanks - I'm glad you think it's too early for separation anxiety. We left him with my mum for an hour yesterday and he was fine come to think about it.

He usually goes for a decent nap around 5pm so he wouldn't be too bad staying up until 10.30pm. It was more him crying for me I was worried about but maybe that's not the problem at the moment.

Fingers crossed for growth spurt...

Anyone else had this??
