Just reading about 5 month olds on the Bounty website. It says....

Sleeping through the night
By 5 months old you may find your baby is sleeping through the night in a solid block of sleep. The best way to establish this to ensure that you have a good bedtime routine set up that is followed each night. This helps to relax your baby and let them know it’s time to sleep. You’ll also find your baby needs 1 or 2 naps in the daytime too, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Firstly, sleeping through the night - ha!! (Although my baby did go from 7.30pm-5.30am with one dream feed a few nights ago so I suppose this could be considered sleeping through the night).
But my main concern is 1-2 naps in the daytime. This is dreadful advice isn’t it? My baby sleeps after 2 hours waking time, and mostly naps between 10-30 mins, meaning a lot of naps. I can’t lengthen those naps - it’s what she does! If she had 1-2 naps a day she would be hellish, I’m sure!
As an aside, does anyone have any tips to lengthen naps?

The key word there is MAY. As in babies are all different. Mine never managed long naps. At 5 months she was sleeping 7-7 with a 10-11pm dreamfeed which was eventually dropped when she was about 6.5 months. Nap wise she was a bit inconsistent but usually managed something like 9-10am/1-1.30pm/3.30-4pm. She didn’t stop the third nap until she was at least 7 months. But when she did the after lunch nap did become longer and is now usually an hour. But at 9 months she still has 2 naps. I’m with you as 1 nap a day for a 5MO really doesn’t sound right to me either... Confused

I think it’s a bit worrying a webisite as well known is saying such a thing about 5 month olds!

My 5.5 month old sleeps 10pm-06.30 am with 4 naps during the day, 45-90 mins. We have zero bedtime routine, and I did nothing to "make" him sleep through the night, it just happened organically. But he is rocked to sleep for every nap and sleeps only on a person during the day. I'm sure I'm doing it all "wrong" according to these books but I'm following my instinct. I think babies are as different as adults, we all have different sleep habits, needs and preferences.
