5 month old slamming legs into mattress

My 5 month old DD has started lifting her legs and slamming them into her mattress at night while she's asleep. It wakes me up every 20 minutes or so and often wakes her too. She doesn't do it for daytime naps which she has in her pram. Any ideas about why she does it or how to stop it? Anyone else experienced the same?

Oh, you’ve made me smile fondly with this post. I had forgotten, but both of mine did this, i think it’s just something they learn to do and it amuses them because they are making a noise themselves iyswim? As with most things it will pass!

One of mine did this - when awake and asleep. When she has a tantrum she still does it and she’s 8!!!

Oh my goodness I've literally just laughed out loud at this Grin I had completely forgotten that DD did this and it regularly scared the life out of us. Thanks for that OP. Why don't you pop DC into their own room now?

Ahhh I'm so glad it's not just my DD! Thank you for the replies. I'm only keeping her in with us until 6 months because of the safer sleeping guidelines but she'll be in her own room next month. Hopefully she will grow out of it soon then!

Ahhh my dd used to do this when she woke up! She was next to me in a snuzpod, and I had her legs next to my head (found it easier that way lifting her for BF after c section). She was swaddled and her little legs used to go up in the air and slam onto the mattress. She was like a little dancing slug! We used to call it ‘morning leg slams’.

She’s in her own room now in a sleeping bag in cot, but still does it! I can’t hear it anymore though, I just see her legs in the air on the monitor! Very sweet indeed.

My 9 month old has always done this too.

my babies did this when they were in the Moses basket and we took it ad a sign to move them into the corned, once we did they both stopped it.
They were both pretty big babies so it was the right time to move them anyway.

corned =cot bed

FrozenMargarita17 · 12/03/2018 10:37

My nearly 8 month old does this ALL THE TIME

GMtoBe · 12/03/2018 10:40

@cluelessclass - I didn't even consider it could be a space issue. She's quite a long baby and is in a chicco next to me. Maybe it's time for her cotbed! Thank you.
