DS is 10 months old and has never been a particularly great sleeper. He has always strongly relied on settling on us to go to sleep and I think that's due to him needing to be kept upright after feeds due to reflux. He doesn't nap for more than 10 minutes unless we are in the car.
He is capable of sleeping 6;30pm to 6:30am but recently we are having a nightmare... he has a bottle as usual at 6pm and asleep by 6:30am. We transfer to his cot straight away and he'll sleep for an hour or so. Then starts the problem... he'll wake up crying and we cannot settle him again and it's as if he's had enough sleep and is ready to get on with his day evening. It's now gone past 11pm and he's still wide awake and won't settle. He'll be up in the night too and possible another instance of this where it can take hours to settle again. How can a baby not sleep during the day and not sleep in the evening???

If he's not sleeping during the day and disturbed at night, it sounds like she's chronically overtired.

How is he getting to sleep at night? Dummy, rocking, feeding, etc? Sounds like he's not linking sleep cycles so will need this method every time he wakes until you wean him off it or he grows out of it.

Naps are crucial. I'd go for as much sleep as possible, however you have to get it at this stage to get you out of this cycle. At least 2 naps, time journeys out in the car if you have to. Otherwise cosleep, pram, sling, whatever you can to get a decent nap. Or persist with the bedtime method in the cot.

What is he having for the reflux OP? Or has that resolved now?

tea I agree, I think he is probably over tired. Driving him around twice a day isn't really ideal as I have a three year old too.

laurz we have just weaned him off his reflux meds and I think we can say we have finally made huge progress. We still have days where he is sick but it's 100% better than it was.
