2yo taking 90 mins to fall asleep - time to drop nap? ?

Posting on 2 boards as not sure which is best
DS was 2 last month. For over a year he's slept 7pm-7am every night with a 1-2 hour nap in the cot or at nursery over lunch.
The last few weeks we have been putting him to bed at 7 as always, it usually takes him 10/15 mins to drop off. But now at 8.30 pm he's still awake every night. He's not upset he just chats and sings and plays in his bed with his teddies.
He's still waking at 7am
I'm wondering if this means we should start dropping his nap?
I'm due dc2 in 6 weeks so really don't want him to not sleep in the day, however I feel that his bedtime is quite late now.
It's currently 8.40pm and tonight he is still up singing twinkle twinkle!
Any advice will be appreciated :)

Yep .
My dd was two last month and we've had to drop the nap as the same thing happens .

Icantdothis has dropping the nap worked for you?
And did you drop it every day or gradually?

1-2 hours is quite a long time. You could try waking him up after 45 minutes?

I dropped dds down to 30mins when she turned 2. She's 2.8 now and doesn't sleep most days. When she doesn't have a nap she drops off in about 2 mins at bedtime.

Okay sounds like cutting it down then is definitely the way forward. Ahh gutted, I've been enjoying having a sofa nap at the same time on my days off!
Should I tell nursery to do the same thing?

How many days does he go to nursery? Dd still drops off sometimes when she's at home but not when she's at nursery

I love my sofa naps too but I pay the price at bedtime because we end up sleeping for 2 hours!

He is at nursery 4 days, tue to Fri.
His nap there tends to be around 1 hour sometimes 1 hour 20.
At home he will sleep longer, and I'm the same some days If I don't set my alarm we'll both still be asleep at 2.30/3pm!

Think I'm answering my own question aren't I.
Bad times :(
