4 Month Sleep Regression?!

DS officially turned 4 months yesterday. Since around 8 weeks old his sleep patterns have been a bit all over the place but generally not too bad. However this week it really has gone to sh*t.
Previously he'd only been waking up for one night feed (ebf) or sometimes even sleep through! Now he'll wake up to 4 times a night, doesn't always want a feed though and just stays awake for up to an hour for no apparent reason Confused
Daytime naps now vary from a couple of hours to 20 minutes so he's becoming very ratty and always overtired when it comes to the evening.
Im exhausted! Is there anything I can do to encourage him to sleep better? Or is it a case of just riding it out? If he ever grows out of it that is! Starting to feel a bit like I'm fighting a losing battle.
Feel like I should add I spoke to family members for advice about this and Ive been told 'he must be hungry if he's waking up all the time you obviously need to wean him' Hmm DS has cmpa amongst other allergies so I'm definitely not going to wean him this early if I don't have to?!

Absolute nonsense 😒 babies wake for a number of reasons, regressions being one of them. Don’t wean until minimum 6 months unless for medical reasons (severe reflux where baby can’t keep milk down). My 13 month old doesn’t yet sleep through and she eats plenty. They’re all different x

Mine is the same, was waking once a night and last few days it’s been every 1-2 hoirs...
Unfortunately the 4 month sleep regression is here to stay not just a phase and from what I gather the best way to tackle it is to take steps towards them being able to self settle. So that when they wake up between sleep cycles then they can go back to sleep themselves. There are various methods like the ‘pat sssh’ one in the baby whisperer I think. My little one will get himself off to sleep himself often but still wakes up in the night loads so tbh I don’t feel qualified to provide good advise at the moment but I will update you if I make any progress! I’m doing the Little Ones settling methods which are basically to swaddle, use white noise and pat to sleep and gradually do less patting until they go to sleep by themselves.

Ps I leant with my first that bad sleep is generally due to being a bad sleeper not due to being hungry, weaning wouldn’t help at 4 months and weaning didn’t help my first either she was and is a rubbish sleeper! Obviously they need to be full and well fed but many babies/ children sleep badly even when full so I’d ignore the ‘wean now’ advice.
