Stopped napping in cot

Hi there, my 8 mth old (girl) has suddenly stopped napping in her cot. She was in a fairly good routine - 30-40 mins at 9am and then 2hrs at 12ish - always with one or two wake ups but went back easily. Since Monday she cannot sleep more than 5-10 mins before she wakes and then it takes me a good 10-15 mins to get her back to sleep. After 4 or 5 wake ups I give up. This is now morning and lunchtime nap. Each wake up I pick her up and she eventually falls back asleep and I transfer her back. Any ideas what is causing this? Should I leave her to cry? Night time she is fine!! HELP PLEASE!!

In the absence of teething / illness, maybe her routine needs adjusting a bit? My 9.5 month old did this a while back, and again recently. Think she is needing longer wake times as she gets older.

I found this chart on a fb sleep group which I used - seemed to help.

What time is she waking up in the morning?

Sop76 · 01/03/2018 11:13

Thanks Sipperskipper, I had thought that might be the issue, I tried a bit later yesterday but didn't make much difference but I guess it takes a few days to get into new timing. It has coincided with her sleeping better at night so maybe she needs less sleep in the day. I'll try moving her nap back to maybe 1ish do you think?

She's now waking at around 6.30-6.45am. Waking once or twice in the night but getting herself back to sleep.

I would try it in 15 min increments - would be a long awake time if she wakes at 9.30 and then goes all the way until 1pm - might end up overtired! You could try pushing the morning one later first of all?

My just turned 9 month old is now doing 3 hours wake time, if I try putting him down any earlier and it doesn’t work. He’s been doing this since about 8 months. If she takes at 6.30 it try aim for nap starting at 9.30, so till 10/10:15.

Thanks everyone. This has worked today. She woke early so ended up with longer awake time and has had a better lunchtime nap. I think 3 hrs may be the number! I’ll keep trying this xx
