So, I am elated. My DS has fallen asleep on the couch (I am with him) after some very minimal shushing.

I am literally thrilled about this as I have been holding him since birth. And feeding to sleep at night. I wont sleep train so this is real progress IMO.

However, yesterday when this happened he only napped for 10min to half hour as opposed to maybe 1hour + on me before startling. Everytime he woke I would hold til sleepy then repeat but obviously i dont want nap failures to mean no night sleep. So whats better, lots of short naps or long ones one me at this stage??

He is currently waking 5/6 times a night BUT I am taking this nap shushing success that he is starting to learn to settle himself a little.....

So...advice please...(I think I know the answer is to just perservere but am also aware more regressions are coming)

We had a similar situation and I went for longer naps on me. Her night time sleep had gone to shit as well and she was just exhausted, as was I.

Hmm. Perhaps try the shushing tonight instead. Tried last night and he yelled. Its so wierd he dropped feeding to sleep for naps and will now be without me but nights are a whole different thing. Takes me about an hour and a half to get him to sleep st night.

I think until night time is better I’d do all I could to get decent naps in the day. You could do one nap by himself and the rest held? My DD is the same age and only does 30-45 min naps in her cot, but she’ll sleep much longer in swing/pram/car seat/me. I make sure she has one decent nap a day and the other 2 or 3 are short ones. I usually do the first one of the day in her cot.

Thanks @Caterina99 Thats what I've done today really. Hes done really well. He even woke opened his eyes looked at me and smiled and went back off.

He can have lots more than 3 naps a day depending on length etc. I thought he could stay awake 2 hours but just now noticed him rubbing eyes and yawning after 1 hr 10 so he's back to sleep already after 1 hr 25 ish (on me)
