Sleeping thru the night

Hey my little one is 4 months old and for the past few weeks he's only been having about 5oz at every feed whereas he used to have 7/8oz a feed. Has this happened to anyone else before? Is there anything I can do? He is healthy and putting on weight. I'm just fed up of waking up twice a night now to feed him as he used to sleep thru before he starting having less formula.

It’s possibe he is going through the 4 month sleep regression and growth spurt, totally normal.

Try making the feeds closer together in the daytime, so there are more bottles per day.

Also ensure every feed involves feed until full, then good wind, then reoffer the bottle after winding. Then wind again if more is taken.

Sounds like 4 month regression- totally normal and you just have to ride it out. Only waking twice at that age is fantastic sleep.

Bbbbbbut I would have loved my baby to have only woken twice a night at only 4 months old!

Mines 5 months and waking up every 2 hours! Jealous of your 2 feeds!

Lovingtyrells · 25/02/2018 20:56

Every 1 or 2 hours a night here at 7 months.!!!!

Mine did something similar around 4 months (can’t remember exactly!). Turns out she was getting frustrated with the slow flow of the newborn bottle teats. We moved up a teat size and voila she was back up to 7oz a time.

Also always did as FATE suggested and offered the bottle again after winding. And DD was sleeping 7am-7pm with a 10pm dreamfeed at 4 months.

I have a slightly different take on this to PPs. How often does your LO feed? At this age, their bellies can start to be able to hold bigger feeds and therefore go longer between feeds. Otherwise you end up with a baby who is topping-up or “snacking” at feed times and not really having a proper feed.

At 4 months, my first LO started fussing and taking less at feeds and even bringing some of it back up. Took a while but I eventually realised she was still a bit full from the last feed and not hungry enough. So her 3 hourly feeds eventually moved to 4 hourly and voila, she’d guzzle it down and continued sleeping through. Had exactly the same with my 2nd LO.
