Rolling in swaddle!

My baby is months and all of a sudden he's decided he's an expert at rolling. He likes to sleep on his side now. How long does it take to transition baby out of their swaddle? What was your experience? I'm a half a day into the transition, with one arm out its going ok but he seems to still have his startle reflex and he's very handsy, he rubs his eyes and scratches his face often. How long did it take you to transition your baby out his swaddle?

It depends, all my 4 went from swaddle one night to an age appropriate sleepbag the next and were fine, they still startled and were handsy but that just little babies, they happily resettled though by themselves.

No time. Baby kept escaping so we stopped using and moved to sleeping bags. Only swaddled with a cloth though and not anything fancy.

Oh wow you all hit the jackpot! Thank you for the replies! I think I probably carried on way to long with the swaddling because my baby for a break free as well. He's 5 months now ( just saw the typo lol) but I do use it to settle him for bed, I'm not sure what I'll do for him now.

Also do you remember how old you transitioned from the swaddle? I just might give going cold turkey a try.

I used a sheet for swaddling. From about 3 months old I would make it less tight, arms still in but looser. Then I would swaddle less consistently. So if I knew baby was well-fed and I anticipated it being easier you get up sleep, I'd try without the swaddle. Any kicking off or crying though, I'd be happy to still use the swaddle, just not every time. I was still occasionally using the swaddle right through to about 7 months old (when rolling film 4m). But only if overtired and needing extra help.

A tightly tucked in sheet over the top of baby in a sleeping bag is a good way to transition.
