And I was the only person there who had a baby who is difficult to get to sleep for a nap and who is up 5-7 times a night. She's ebf and is 16 weeks old. Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Thanks for this post OP! I feel much less alone after reading this.

DD is 9 months and nowhere near sleeping through. Still breastfeeding, and co-sleeping out of necessity not choice. On a good night she'll sleep in her cot for an hour (after an hour getting her to sleep) so I can have a bit of time downstairs, then it's in my bed for the night. There'll be at least 2-3 feeds though we go straight back to sleep after each one. It's actually working fine for us. She's happy and I'm not too sleep deprived. However, when I hear at baby groups about all the other babies self settling in their cots and staying there all night I can't help feeling I'm doing something wrong. I then have a few nights of doubt, which are always the harder nights as I stress and I'm sure DD picks up on it! No chance of getting her in her cot and long awake periods. Wise old DH usually has a stern word with me reminding me that it's working for us so it's fine, and it's back to semi-peaceful nights in the Cluck household.

It's lovely to hear that so many others have had similar experiences, it's not forever, and I'm not setting her up for a lifetime of having to sleep with her parents and a boob in her mouth. Hope you get a good night tonight OP!

my son naps ok but is up at least 6x per night too, he is 7 months old :(

KTCluck - I think you're right along with some of the other PP that said a similar thing. It's about what works for you, not what's 'right' or 'wrong'. I beat myself up for feeding to sleep and letting her nap on me during the day but that's what she wants and it gives us both a bit peace. We're all doing a really hard but brilliant job!🙂

We certainly are GMtoBe, and if it helps during the day DD would only nap on me after being fed to sleep til around 6 months. She then suddenly decided that this was no longer to her satisfaction and now she will only sleep in her pram after a few minutes of being wheeled up and down the hall. My lovely stripped floorboards now need revarnished due to the pram tracks but it it sooo worth it for that peace and quiet while she sleeps for anywhere from 40 minutes up to two hours! Twice! Having seen that change in her happen so suddenly and without input from me I don't know why I have trouble believing it'll happen at night too

Ouch, StorminaBCup, that sounds rough. I was only up twice last night (once with DS already in the bed but shouting about bloody trains). I like your style re gin, though Wink.

Totally agree with the previous poster who said about the annoying parents liking to equate hitting milestones with their excellent parenting. It's that that got me - the implication that I must be doing something wrong when actually I just had a child who Wouldn't. Fucking. Sleep.

To give you all hope: we did have a few marvellous months last year when he miraculously started sleeping through at around 20 months - 2000 to 0600. Couldn't believe it. Kept waking myself because, of course, in this house it's the toddler who does the sleep training, not the parents Grin. But then, like fools, we moved house and broke the magic. And now I drink lots of Brew and eat lots of Cake.

Still no swooshy hair, though I do regularly get the kind of shower my friend and I used to knowingly refer to as "the kind where you get to cut your toenails after" Smile.

I can't even eat the cake because I'm doing slimming world to try and lose the baby belly !!

I’m so glad I’m not alone too. My 10 month old has not slept through yet. And for the past two nights she has been up 1-2 hours breast feeding and wants cuddles and I end up having been her on my chest and we both get some sleep. Was in tears how tired I am. She’s teething and has the cold. And I’ve got the cold too. This will pass! AND yes some people are lying!!

I wish I could be one of those mums which baby sleeps through all night... Mine was never a good sleeper but since 4 month got even worse. Some nights she wakes up hourly and feeds 4times... She gets too excited during the day looking at everything and feeds at night, and the need for cuddles had increased significantly. I'm dreaming with the day when I will sleep the night...

Bartos · 13/02/2018 23:11

And also, why would women lie about that? I find that very strange...

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 14/02/2018 08:29

It's funny but at the time I worried about whether letting them nap on me was 'right' but years later I miss those days. So short.
