Okay, I need some advice, I have a 16month old son that for the past 3 months (if not longer) has been waking between 4.45 - 5.45 to start his day! We have been told to keep him in his cot until 6 which we do! We are in the process of sleep training him to settle himself so we sit on his floor and ignore him to get him to sleep in the evenings which seems to be working okay, we do the same when he wakes during the night or in the morning! At 6 we get him up and he comes for a cuddles with us, but when it's time to get up (6.15) as we both work he then starts crying and yawning and rubbing his eyes as he's still tired! He has one nap at lunchtime for around 2 hours, it's a struggle to keep him awake until his lunchtime sleep as he's so tired! Any tips or similar situations?

I take it he only has 1 nap a day? Can you bring his nap forward to say 11am? Why are you fighting to keep him up for a nap at lunchtime?
I would then experiment, if he has a 2hr nap, then lunch around 1pm that could be enough to see him theough to bedtime around 6/6.30.
Otherwise maybe attempt 2 short naps morning and afternoon of about 40mins each.

He may then be well restes and sleep little later on in the morning.

Don't read the books, experiement and see what works for your child. Maybe take few days for results to be seen but see what works. X
