Sudden change in sleep

Until 2 days ago, my 3 week old daughter had been predominantly bottle fed due to latching issues and was sleeping in her nest brilliantly (with the help of pre-warmed blankets) between feeds.

With feeding issues resolved, she's now breastfeeding for 35-45 minutes at a time and settling on my chest into a deep sleep after feeds. However, when I put her down in her nest, she's wide awake and crying before I'm even out the door and down the stairs.

I've tried leaving her for a little while to see if she settles. I've tried white noise to soothe her. I've tried holding/rubbing her tummy. I've tried winding her. Nothing seems to work.

I'd say she's definitely getting enough milk because I try to put her back on the breast and she takes herself off. We also tried offering a bottle top up which she didn't want.

Any ideas/advice for the sudden change?

My husband and I are currently exhausted from taking it in turns to pace the lounge with her so any help would be greatly appreciated!

In he future sleep will change because they are growing or going through mental leaps and it may be disturbed for a few days.

For now it sounds like she's worked out she's "out" and really needs you for comfort and feeling safe.
The tip I wish I had gotten earlier was - treat them for the first 3 months as if they are still inside you: feeding and sleeping when needed and keep them close. A wrap or a baby carrier might help. Also just getting to bed with them early, since you need extra sleep if you will wake up for feeds. Co sleeping does wonders for them.

Also treat night time like nighttime. Lights low, quiet and bedtime routine, even though you have to wake up.

All very normal. I found DS settled better in the bassinet of his pram at that age as I could bounce / rock him to help him settle. He did eventually settle in his moses basket at about 11 weeks. I co-slept with him from about 2 months and honestly wish I'd done it earlier- it really saved my sanity and got me some much needed sleep. Good luck and congratulations on your new baby!

She is tiny and just wants to stay close to you. I held my daughter when she was that ages until I went to bed or put her down slowly in a sleepyhead downstairs - just for reference it’s not recommended to leave babies to sleep in another room until over 6 months.

Can she sleep on your chest until you go up to bed? Saves getting up all the time. Sounds completely normal, they do tend to wake up a bit more at that age and be more aware of their surroundings.

I took her to an osteopath yesterday for something unrelated and she said that her diaphragm was quite tight. A little massage later and she's back to her normal self! Can't believe it was something do simple!
