4 month old napping TOO MUCH?

First of all, I realise I am somewhat fortunate as there are so many people out there who would love to have this problem!

My 4 month old naps a lot. She usually naps every 1 - 1.5 hours after she wakes up, and naps total for about 7 hours (3 hour nap in the morning, then 3 other smaller naps later.) She's always ready and happy for a nap. It's never any trouble for her to sleep.

She goes to bed at 6 - 7pm and wakes around 6am regardless, but does wake 3-4 times during the night.

My question is... Is she napping too much? I try to ensure she doesn't nap for longer than 3 hours at a time. I worry it might be contributing to her night wakings.

Hard to find info out there as usually people post about their babies NOT napping, but everywhere seems to state a baby her age should only nap for a total of 4-5 hours.

She might be having a growth spurt. So if she’s napping that amount, and still sleeping well at night then you’ve got an excellent baby on your hands! The only time I’d worry about naps being too much is when she starts fighting bed time or waking much earlier. 3/4 wake ups in the night is totally normal.

My DS slept loads when he was that age and couldn’t go more than 90 mins without sleeping so it sounds normal. At 4 months she may well be feeding a lot more as well? Night sleep can be unsettled at this age too as they are having a growth spurt and need to feed more (4 month sleep regression!) and at that age less day time naps doesn’t equal more night time sleep. By about 6-7 months I remember having to consciously try and ‘tweak’ DS nap times so he didn’t have a very late afternoon sleep as that was starting to affect his nighttime (awake until very late but still awake early in the morning!) so he’d wake up at around 3-4pm and I’d make sure when he next fell asleep it was bedtime which I set at about 7. He was 8-9 months when he settled into a routine longer morning nap around 9-10am and then afternoon nap at about 2pm.
