New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Is everyone asleep, it's been very quiet? We're on wake up 4 here, feeling sad as we were having a good week but this weekend the sleep has been so much worse. I really thought we had turned a corner

user1489931797 · 11/02/2018 03:56

@Meepmoop morning Hun sorry it's been a bad night in term of wake ups for your LO
Has it been s feed each time too?

Meepmoop · 11/02/2018 04:11

Yea pretty much and the last one didn't work to get him to sleep either. He's wide awake talking and smiling at me. I'm always torn when he's like that as he doesn't do it in the day and he looks at me so lovingly but I also want to sleep.

Catscatsandmorecats · 11/02/2018 04:16

Getting some sleep here, on feed three at the moment and DS2 went nearly three hours since the last one, which is amazing.

User that sounds like progress, I hope you feel it is, big hugs.

Utterlyconfused poor DS2 has has he joy of shreiking during nearly every nap today as we've had people round and been to a party for DS1, he also has to contend with balloons popping three!

DH,who is mostly brilliant and takes DS2 towind when in too tired has managed to learn the anbesol in the room my sister is staying in, he did make moves to go and get it but it is too late if it's not immediately to hand before I feed. Fortunately DS2 seems a little more settled tonight so I'm hoping he'll go back down ok in a minute.

I have got the most annoying thickly and chesty cough which isn't bad but seems to cause awful coughing fits just as the boys are settling down to feed or sleep, ARG!

Catscatsandmorecats · 11/02/2018 05:59

DS2 just did the biggest loudest poo, he woke himself up and me and DH!

Meepmoop · 11/02/2018 06:05

and we're up again.

@Catscatsandmorecats that must have been an epic one!

Meepmoop · 11/02/2018 07:49

And we're up for the day boo.

Have a lovely day planned as my friends are down from London who I haven't seen since July. We're having lunch and then off to shop for a wedding dress for her.

Coffee will have to be my friend

Jellybean2017 · 11/02/2018 09:32

Ahh that sounds lovely meepmoop. Enjoy. Coffee and cake will definitely be required.

Wouldn't have been too bad a night here if DS hadn't decided to be awake from 4am to 5.30. Luckily DH took him for a walk so I've had some more sleep.

Hope you've all had some rest...

Hi all. Sorry to hear about the bad nights- hopefully coffee cake and chat will get you through @meep. I often find that on really tired days, time spent with friends makes me feel so much better than being in the house.

So DS surprised me and did six hours last night!! Couldn't believe it when I saw the tike and it was 3.10am, normally he's been waking around 12/1 for first feed! He was fussy for about an hour and then fell asleep again, on me, but that's fine! Then DH took him for an hour. Would have been longer but he woke roaring hungry (DS not DH) so I had to take him back. Definitely going through a growth spurt...

Now at soft play, oh the joys!

AMagdalena · 11/02/2018 13:32

Whoop whoop, @WhoAteAllThePercyPigs Really glad you got some sleep.

Last night was ok again.
2 wake-ups while I was upstairs (grrr) and then the next one at 1am and another one at 6, up for the day at 8.50am, so I am not complaining.
DH is off next week, so I think we'll try and encourage some cot sleeping.
We shall see. Ha!

Catscatsandmorecats · 11/02/2018 19:56

Amazing stuff whoateallthepercypigs and feat you had a better night too amagdalena.

Meepmoop it was a pretty epic poo, then DS1 woke up too so that was them up for the day, fortunately my sister was staying so she and DH took the boys downstairs and let me lie in a bit.

We put together DS2'S cot today and he had a nap in it. Not sure I'm ready to move him out overnight yet because of all the wakings.

AMagdalena · 11/02/2018 22:01

Omg, just tried to have an hr with DH downstairs and DD has been waking constantly! 😒
Couldn't even watch one episode of Father Ted!

Sakura03 · 11/02/2018 22:34

Last night wasn’t too bad although we did have 4 wake ups where we normally have two or three... we were up by 8 am as we were going to my school friend’s house for breakfast, it’s only a 5-10 minutes walk from my mum’s but it was snowing heavily so it was a very slippery walk. Ds stayed in the pram for two hours which was very good of him so that I could catchup with my friend and her family over breakfast and eventually ds woke up and joined us and charmed them all.
Yesterday my mum and I took him for a long walk in the pram for two hours and when we got back he stayed in the pram outside and slept for another hour and 40 minutes (don’t worry it very safe where my mum lives In Denmark).
Just getting ready for bed now, hoping for less wake ups tonight. Can’t believe ds is 13 weeks old tomorrow/3 months on Tuesday.

Sakura03 · 12/02/2018 01:11

On feed#1, been up for just over 30 minutes now after a 2 hr sleep for ds - I had 1 hr 45 minutes. Will try and put him down again now.

mummy2pickle · 12/02/2018 01:44

I'm up on feed number 2 with my 7 month old who struggles to do more than 2/3 hour stretches at night. It's knackering. DH works long hours so it's down to me for every feed every night. I know I've still got one more feed if the night it a early wake up

user1489931797 · 12/02/2018 02:49

@mummy2pickle @Sakura03 morning guys hope you're both ok and getting some rest right now
I'm just finished feed number 2 although could be counted as 1 as brought DS to bed at 9pm as he had fallen asleep downstairs in our arms at 7pm but instantly woke up when upstairs so gave him his feed before properly going to sleep he went down then at 10pm and awoke for a feed at 1:45am which is amazing for him with severe reflux and not being in our arms!

Finished his 4oz and then finished off on me a little I think he's properly asleep now but ye know when you're like ' I'm just not going to move for another 5mins just to make sure' why is it putting your pillow back down when your LO has gone back to sleep that it all of a sudden sounds like it's made out of foil?!!

Anyway really hoping for another 3hrs of sleep now and no nappy leakages and then if he wakes at 6am I don't mind getting up for the day with him if that's what it seems he wants yesterday we tried keeping him in room until 8am but after his feed for the 2hrs after that he was very lightly sleeping and wriggly so I didn't sleep really then.

Catscatsandmorecats · 12/02/2018 04:25

On feed 4 here, I think the first two were early and close together because it was too warm in our house and it made DS2 thirsty. (I may need my spade, DH turned the heating up for some reason and didn't turn it back down before bedtime).

But I cannot sleep properly, I haven't slept at all in the 2 hours since the last feed, I'm so tired but something is keeping me awake and I can't work out what.

Sakura I'm very jealous you're in Denmark, I have family out there too but haven't been over nearly enough. I have loved it when I have been. It sounds like your DS does like being a scandi baby :)

cheshiremama89 · 12/02/2018 05:08

I've been feeding our one week old son e wry hour since around 10pm I'm absolutely exhausted Sad

Can anyone advise or have experience of the below?

10 days postpartum- freezing cold at night, shivering etc when feeding, yet when in bed waking up to find I am literally dripping in sweat.

Xx*

Meepmoop · 12/02/2018 05:22

I'm on feed two but wake up 3. After a rubbish start to the night DS managed a 5 hour stretch which was very much needed.

@cheshiremama89 not sure on the being cold bit but I used to wake up drenched in sweat. I actually slept on a towel for a couple weeks. It's one of the after affects that no one actually tells you about. It will go away

Lallypopstick · 12/02/2018 08:05

Yes I remember the sweat of the early days too. I used to feel so scruffy. Probably because I didn’t have time for a shower as often as I needed.

I was woken up by a coughing baby at 4am. Thankfully he went back to sleep after a feed and is still asleep now. But was up pre 6am yesterday!

NinaMarieP · 12/02/2018 13:59

Oh yes the night sweats! I had forgotten about them. Never felt that hot but woke up drenched, but just over my chest I think. Totally weird but it stopped after a few weeks.

Meepmoop · 12/02/2018 15:29

8 hours and no nap yet, I'm in for a screaming over tired baby aren't I. I've been trying to get him to nap but he's not having any of it

AMagdalena · 12/02/2018 16:29

Ey up.

DD was up every 2 hrs last night and again, she wouldn't let me watch Father Ted Hmm

She has been good today, though.
Both me and DH got our eyes tested and she didn't even make a peep at the opticians. It took nearly 2 hours! The staff even commented on how good she was! Smile

Meepmoop You have my sympathy. Nothing worse than an overtired baby Sad

I think I am going to attempt moving DD 5o her bedroom tomorrow night. Just need an extension cable for the baby monitor.
I know it will take 3883356 attempts to get her to stay asleep in the cot for even 10mins, but it's worth a try, no?

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 12/02/2018 20:06

Congratulations on your baby @Cheshiremama! And yes, the night sweats are very much a thing...but luckily a temporary thing. I was having to change the bedsheets several times a week, it was minging!

DS did not repeat his six hour stretch last night...quelle surprise. Been so tired today, but had to barrel ahead with two toddler playdates. Feeding DS and praying for a good night.

Anyone got plans for Valentine's Day? Apart from trying not to kill their OH, that's probably the extent of ours Grin

UtterlyConfused111 · 12/02/2018 21:15

@cheshiremama
The swearing - Totally normal after childbirth. One of the ways that the body gets rid of excessive fluids
@whoateallthepercypigs
That is entirely my plan for Valentine’s Day.
