Weaning off white noise

DD is 8 months now and we’ve been using white noise while she sleeps since she was a newborn. She starts nursery next month where she won’t have it so I’m wanting to get rid of it ready for her going. I’m wondering what’s the best way to do it just to go cold turkey or maybe lower the volume every few days? I’m dreading it because she’s so dependent on it 😩

I don’t think you need to get rid of it, she will work out a way to go to sleep at nursery without the white noise.

we love white nosie too! No experience of weaning off it but I know someone who just gradually turned the sound down lower and lower every few weeks till it was gone.

I would agree though, I wouldn’t necessarily think you have to totally get rid of it

We have used white noise since birth. DS is now 13 months. We still use it for naps and nighttime. He goes to nursery 2 days a week and naps there without it. Admittedly he doesn't nap for as long but I certainly won't be stopping it at home any time soon!

Have no experience of weaning off but my LO also uses this well. Without any knowledge of this I’d say nursery sleeps will probably be quite noisy, i.e not dead silence, and so that will create the ‘background noise’ needed to sleep? I was told they hate silence, and I don’t imagine nursery sleeps will be?

Erm- a ‘mature’ lady here who uses white noise. I agree that you don’t necessarily need to stop it completely, the nursery usually keeps the environment quite/ uses music.

She'll get in a different routine at nursery!

Ask them, they may play the radio or something

Just keep using it at home. Let the nursery know, they might use it too. Or they will figure out another way to do it. Nursery could get my toddler to sleep long after he'd given up naps at home. They are magicians!
