13wo waking every 90mins

Up until Christmas my DS was sleeping 4-6hour chunks. Me and dh did let his routine slide a little over Christmas due to visits etc but since then DS has pretty much been wanting to feed every 90mins day and night. I thought this was 12 week growth spurt but we are coming up to 3 weeks now. Through the night its quite relentless and I am quite tired now!

All that's changed is that:

He's now on size 3 nappies, so based on current advice, I no longer change his nappy in the night unless he has poo'd. He doesnt mind if his nappy is wet AT ALL so I doubt its that waking him. However, I used to feed one side, get up and change nappy then switch sides. He would usually feed for maybe 20-30mins total. Without the nappy change he falls asleep on one side and i cannot wake him BUT he has been feeding for 30-35mins a side so i didn't think this was an issue. He doesnt appear to be comfort feeding much. I put him in a sleepyhead in the next to me cot.

Hes fussing on the boob and crying sometimes in the day. He wants the boob -i offer it - sometimes he will take my nipple then let go and cry. Other times he cries even as i get him in position. Same happens at last feed before bed.

Hes arching his back alot when held laying down or sat up. I've took this to mean he wants to move. He gets cranky as he is obsessed with looking at the tv so I often position hin away from it.

Hes distracted by everything in the day to the detriment of feeda and naps. He does sleep and does feed but its broken and difficult! Especially if I go out or as I say, have TV on.

Is this still a growth spurt or have I messed up somewhere?

Is it a wonder week?
My DD had her second one over Xmas and it made it very difficult as like you say we had people coming over (mostly uninvited) etc. It started with one bad night of waking at 1, 2, 5 then 7...her worst night since her first month!

Jellybabie3 · 11/01/2018 20:21

Yeah he was due a 12 week growth spurt but this has been going on for nearly 3 weeks Confused

Leap 4 can last around a month apparently.

Does he have reflux?

Jellybabie3 · 11/01/2018 22:25

Yeah he does. Hes treated with ranitidine.

my ds is 15 weeks today and is the same. sleep has never been great but last 2-3 weeks have been even worse. waking the same every 90mins from start of feed. I'm soo bloody eexhausted. hoping it's just the wonder week/month and it will pass soon

Jellybabie3 · 12/01/2018 17:18

@sleepycat13 sigh its tough isnt it. Did yours do this at 12 weeks? Im shattered. My app kindly told me his average sleep was 1hr 27mins yesterday.....Shock

id say it probably started around week 13. he was 15 days overdue if that makes any difference.

last night was actually much better. we had a stretch of 4.5 hours before he reverted back to the hourly wakings so maybe this is the start of the end.... not getting too hopeful just yet though. I'm horrid to be around at the minute and I'm sure the frustration makes ds worse. fingers crossed it will get better for both of us soon

Jellybabie3 · 12/01/2018 18:59

Yes absolutely. I am abit of a zombie too! I'm stopping making any plans and taking every day as it comes

Are you dairy free if you are still breast feeding and your baby has reflux? What is your current ranitidine dose and how and when do you give it to your baby? My daughters reflux got really severe at 3 months, and by the time we reached the sleep regression phase at 4 months was waking every 40 mins night and day.

Jellybabie3 · 12/01/2018 19:33

No i am not dairy free. He has 1ml 3x a day. Morning afternoon and before bed.

@beansbananas is dairy free beneficial for reflux too as well as dairy intolerance?

beansbananas · 12/01/2018 19:48

Not necessarily but my paediatrician said they are very closely linked and my daughter did improve when I went dairy free, and this only got better once I was prescribed neocate formula. Are you allowing at least 15 mins before feeding when you give your baby the ranitidine?

Jellybabie3 · 12/01/2018 19:50

No, noone told me to do that?

I can only go on what I was advised, but it did help us. We are also on omeprazole though, which I think is more effective.

Jellybabie3 · 12/01/2018 21:36

Ok i will try making sure there is a 15min gap hanks!!
