Very Frustrated - 5 year old dts bedtime

What bedtime do you think is acceptable for a 5 year old? I have been putting dts to bed between 7.30-8pm but they are still bouncing about at 9pm. As a result they are tired and grumpy in the morning but just won't listen to me at all. (We get up about 7-7.30am.)

They have always been quite good at going to bed and straight to sleep, both are still in nappies at night with dts2 likely to stop sooner than dts1. I have tried going back to star charts, rewards, god I would bribe them just to get a break. Dh works shifts and I am a sahm so my day ends when they go to bed (all those who heard me say I looked forward to getting a break when they started school back in August can now laugh - I seem to be busier than ever!)

Any advice really appreciated as I am frazzled beyond all frazzle!

MY DC 5,4, & 3 go to bed between 7 and 7.30 and listen to a story tape or CD. Even if they don't go straight to sleep at least they are out of my hair

Oh a story tape, they enjoy their story I read to them, if I played a tape/cd to them maybe that would work. I know one of my friends puts on the tv to go to sleep which I never understood as I can't have anything electrical in the room, don't know how the boys would react to it. Shall try anyway, thanks Chippy!
