6 month old eye rubbing

My 6month old DS was a dream sleeper, but the last 2 months has been rubbish and the last 2 weeks have been horrendous, up every hour and taking an hour to settle. He is formula fed, and we have started weaning him, he is loving his food, eating a good amount of purred veg every day.

Routine:
up at 7/7.30
Plays until 9, then feeds and naps for an hour (or more if the night before has been awful)
Up at 10, plays
Fed again at 12 and may have a cat nap
Plays until around 3 when he will sleep for half an hour or so
Sleeps again at 5 for another half hour
Purée at 5.30
Bath at 7, another bottle and rocked to sleep for 7.30

He will wake a couple of times between being put down and midnight, but is easily settled by popping his dummy back in and turning on the white noise machine, or he will sooth himself back to sleep.

At 12 he will wake himself by rubbing his eyes, he gets himself into a right old tizz and will take an hour or so to settle. We rub ambasol into his gums to try to calm him, but often will only sleep if being held by me. When I put him down he will stay asleep but then rub his eyes again until he is awake. I try to restrain him from doing it, but he still gets worked up. He will repeat this until he had knackered himself out.

This is repeated again at 2, he will cry for another feed around 3, and will go back to sleep well then, but will be up again at 4 and 6 with the eye rubbing.

We have tried feeding him earlier, trying to get any trapped wind out, feeding whenever he wakes, put him in his own room incase we were waking him, humidifier, different bath product, more milk at bedtime, longer naps, shorter naps , but nothing has worked!

Any ideas about what else we can try? I’m knackered!!!

TIA

The eye rubbing thing will probably be a short phase, my little one does it sometimes too.

However it could also be a bit of a red herring for extra wake ups, as there is typically a big growth spurt at 6 Months.

If it is hunger due to a growth spurt - Veg purée is very low in calories so perhaps try to fill him up with something like porridge made with full fat milk, or banana?

Otherwise he might just want some extra cuddles so you'll have to ride it out until the next phase Smile
