2-3 hour cry session middle of the night

We have recently done sleep training and night weaning and it's starting to go well, however for the last week, lo has been waking up between 1-4AM and when he does, he will be up for 2-3 hours. We settle him every 5,8 then 10 min and repeat 10 min intervals until one of them he starts to drift off. Once he goes back to sleep he usually sleeps another 2-3 hours until he wakes in the morning and I feed him.

Any ideas what might be causing this / anyone had anything similar and got over it?!

Hunger? I think 6 months is a typical growth spurt time.

jb1305uk · 19/12/2017 07:34

Probably hunger.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 19/12/2017 07:52

I’d say hunger too.

FortheloveofJames · 19/12/2017 08:25

I’d say hunger too. There is a massive growth spurt at 6 months and even if baby was previously down to one night feed for example it’s not unusual for them to wake for more. It may be that’s why it’s taking so long for him to drift back off. For a lot of babes it’s normal to keep a night feed till about 9 months x

I think he is hungry! Feed him and see what happens.

My ds is 6 months and was previously doing big chunks of sleeping at night. He is now waking frequently. I try to pat him back but if that doesn't work I feed and he is clearly starving. He's also waking in the evening again and downing his dreanfeed which I used to struggle to get him to take.

StephOrchid · 19/12/2017 10:03

Thanks all, will give that a try then. Perhaps it was a bad time to start sleep training recently then!

He is very tiny to be going without night feeds and to be sleep trained!!

Rotorevolution · 20/12/2017 16:58

Night weaning before a year isn’t a good idea. Often they still need feeding. Some obviously don’t much many still do.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 20/12/2017 21:52

I always preferred the easiest route. If they were hungry, I fed them and went back to sleep Smile

StephOrchid · 20/12/2017 22:16

So I tried giving him an extra bottle during the day as I thought my milk supply may have dropped a bit recently and he slept through the night last night. Will try tonight without the bottle just extra daytime feeding and see what happens!

Sorry but 6 months is way too young to night wean. Maybe try again when he's one.
