Co sleeping - bed guard

Hello,

I've finally given in and now co sleep with my DS occasionally (becoming more often)

He isn't able to sleep between my DH and me as DH is a really deep sleeper.

I'm worried he will be rolling soon and he will be in danger of rolling off the bed.

Is there a bed guard I can get to prevent this. I've looked and they seem to be for toddlers not babies. He's 5 months

Co-sleeping with a 5 month old and your DH all in the same bed sounds rather tricky and a little risky to me but how is it working out so far for you?

You could use a toddler guard on your bed and it would do the same job.

And out of interest, what made you deice to try co-sleeping?

It's okay at the moment as DS doesn't move and I push DH right to the edge of the other side of the bed.

I wasn't sure if a toddler guard would be unsafe for a baby if they were up against it. If seen one that's wooden slates so I guess it's the same as a cot.

It's kind of chosen me as some nights it's the only way to get sleep. For example so far tonight I've managed two lots of 30minute sleep as DS is waking up in his cot

What I do (probably against all official advice but my kid flips about 1000 times a night!) is have a normal mesh type bed guard up, and a pillow there sort of bent lengthways, so it’s half along the edge of the bed and goes up the bed guard slightly. I do this so if she rolls, it would reach her waist area and she won’t carry on rolling. I usually wake up to her using it as a pillow and me as a foot rest though!

Oh and I started that at about 3-4 months when she started rolling, she’s 1 and it still works for us

Will your cot fit next to your bed? You can remove one side off most cots quite easily, then wedge it up next to your bed like a sidecar.

I do have a cot next to my bed, hadn't thought about taking the sides off. My bed has a wood frame so it might not go right against it

Is there no way of pushing the bed up against the wall?

Like a PP I took one side off the cot and pushed it up against the bed. Worked until DD was able to crawl. If there is a slight gap because of the bed frame you could buy some foam to fill it.

We set up a co sleep station on the double bed in our spare room and it has been a godsend when dd has been poorly/unsettled. A toddler bed guard down one side and along the bottom. Me or dh in a sleeping bag. Definitely saved us lots of sleepless nights - suited me even better when it became apparent she settled far better with dh 😂
