I've been up since 2.50 am with a (I think) teething baby. She just wanted to be held...but held while I stood...if I sat down she cried. Falling asleep quickly in my arms but crying as soon as put down. I'm so tired. She eventually fell asleep on my boob at about 6 for half an hour.

She seems fine now...unlike me. Any advice gratefully received but also just in need of some solidarity from other mums! I go back to work soon and wondering how I'll cope with nights like these.

How old is your baby? Did you give any pain relief?

BerryBee · 13/12/2017 10:16

11 months. Yes, I did at bedtime and then again at 5. Maybe should've done earlier but I kept hoping she'd stay asleep as she was falling asleep on me. Giving her pain relief in the middle of the night is horrendous as she screams and cries and then really wakes herself up Sad

Oh no poor you! My 5 month old is teething too and is often up for an hour in the middle of the night, but not all night! I sometimes give her painkillers in the middle of the night which she hates but it is a bit of a trade of as you say. Have you got anyone that can help you today to get a rest? I’ve also been getting out for long walks in the fresh (freezing) air which really helps with the tiredness.

TBH I used to (well, still do) dope my little one up to the gills when teething. Doubled up on neurofen and calpol, plus teething gel (anbesol liquid is best). I know it sounds horrible but I just used to wait until he was screaming his head off and then shoot them in via syringe so he swallowed the lot in one go. Then put him on the boob immediately to calm him down.

Sorry, teething is hell and it seems to continue endlessly!!!

BerryBee · 13/12/2017 11:01

Thanks both. I've just given her more calpol but the day has gone from bad to worse as she only napped for half an hour and is now inconsolable unless on boob.

Teething is hell but now she's exhausted too! Argh.

Have you tried neurofen? Better than calpol for teething as it's an anti inflammatory

BerryBee · 13/12/2017 18:08

It's not teething! Blush She had a temperature and was so distressed all afternoon I took her to doctor who confirmed temperature and says her throat is really sore. Poor thing. I'll be dosing her up on calpol and ibuprofen tonight! 🤞

Awe poor wee thing! I did think it sounded pretty extreme being up half the night with teething but you never know. Glad you’ve seen the doc anyway and hopefully she’ll sleep better tonight and be all better tomorrow. Wink
