my ds is just 8 mo and has approx 4 half hour sleeps throughout the day. I was just wondering what 'the norm' is.

Oh and what time do they go to bed and get up?

varies a lot here, but if there were a typical for my dd it woud be:

awake 0630
aslepp 0900-1100
asleep 1500-1630
asleep 1900
1 wake-up in the night

however, like i say, lots of variations on ths theme (e.g. 3 naps today, still awake now, 2030)

REIDmylips · 18/04/2007 20:31

am jealous pucca. my ds is wakingbetween 5-6am! which is part of the reason for my starting the thread! thank you for sharing

REIDmylips · 19/04/2007 09:32

does your lo last from their afternoon nap until 7.45pm?

OP posts:
usandnosleep · 19/04/2007 09:34

Yep no probs, if we are out and he falls asleep in the car aound tea time he won't go to bed until 8.30 or later.
Saying that he wouldn't have been able to a month ago.

REIDmylips · 19/04/2007 09:41

my ds cannot last any longer than 2 (on the odd day 3) hours max before he falls asleep! however he wil only sleep for 30 minutes at a time!

usandnosleep · 19/04/2007 09:57

Bless him
Is he moving about at all yet?

REIDmylips · 19/04/2007 10:54

PinkTulips · 19/04/2007 11:05

one or two 30min to hour long naps.

he sleeps (well is in bed!) from 7.30 at night til about 7.30/8 am (later if dd is still asleep as he is in bed with me and i just bf to keep him happy)

bnow to read the thread and thouroughly depress myself by finding everyone elses babies sleep for hours

REIDmylips · 19/04/2007 11:49

7 till 7 is brilliant!

my ds goes to bed (and atually sleeps )from 7pm until 5am! he doesnt usually wake in the night at all, so i suppose i should b grateful for that really.

i was just wondering how day time naps effected night time sleep. Although i'm beginning to realise that it doesnt seem to follow any pattern at all!

PinkTulips · 19/04/2007 13:22

he doesn't sleep though.... he wakes between 3 and 20 times.

some nights he's good and sleeps til 3/4 or even 5 before coming into bed with me, other nights he has me up and down the stairs 20 times before 11 o clock, i give up and go to bed with him and he still raises hell.

we just have a very strict 'no getting up after bedtime' policy.

REIDmylips · 19/04/2007 18:59

Pink, i think thats a great policy. We are the same, which i think has had a lot to do with why he sleeps from 7pm until at least 5am

Gosh, my son gets nothing like as much sleep as the rest!

He goes down after his brothers are in bed at 7.30/8.00 - probably 9ish after his feed. He usually wakes once in the night and wakes for the day some time between 5-7am.

I would say his naps (2 or 3) are from 45 mins to 1 hour, rarely longer. So much depends on what we are doing on any one day.

REIDmylips · 20/04/2007 22:12

crayon, i think each child varies. I thought my ds didnt need much sleep at night, hence wakes at 5am. Seems your lo needs even less!!!

OP posts:
llynnnn · 20/04/2007 22:16

wow, arent they all different, my dd:
awake - between 6-7
asleep - 10-11
asleep - 12.30-1.30
asleep 3.30 - 4.30
bedtime - 8pm
(all v approx times !)
at the mo wakes several times in the night to be resettled or have milk! trying to find ways of fixing that on mn at the mo!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/04/2007 22:26

At 8 months my dd was having 2 naps a day, of anything between 30 mins and 2 hours each (never 2 long ones though), and sleeping 8pm-6am (she was just starting to sleep through at 8 months, although teething ruined that again a couple of weeks later).

PavlovtheCat · 20/04/2007 22:28

9 months, 7:30pm - 6:30am (sometimes 7am). Sometimes wakes for a feed.

Day time, used to be, until last few weeks, 2-3 20min - half hour naps. Now, somewhere between that and one 2.5 hour nap. Most usual seems to be 1.5 hours, and maybe another half hour if she has lots of fresh air.

PavlovtheCat · 20/04/2007 22:31

oh, and until the last few weeks, also woke up constantly thru the night .
Slept through for first time night after I went back to work. I think she knew mummy needed some sleep!

PinkTulips · 21/04/2007 00:27

pmsl.... he had a nap from 10 am til half one today just to prove m wrong!

and is still asleep after going down at 7.30 pm!
