Tummy Sleeping!!!

I know controversial subject but my 7 week old daughter really will not tolerate staying asleep on her back for more than 20-30mins before waking herself up. Experiments with tummy sleeping suggest she will go for hours......any advice anyone??!

It's one of the major factors in influencing cot death - but I know exactly what you mean.

It's a hard choice isn't it?

Trying to get enough sleep, but also having the fear of cot death.

Exactly - she just seems so much happier on her tummy! HV suggested sleeping her on her side which confused me as her face/head is in exactly the same position as if she were on her tummy. She is quite strong and easily turns her head from side to side. To get some sleep I have resorted to sleeping her on her tummy across my knees so I know she is def getting fresh air!

I'm surprised the HV suggested her sleeping on her side - I thought the advice was the their backs.

What about swaddling?

My ds was the same - for the first few weeks of his life he slept on his tummy, on me and that was the only way he and I could get much sleep.

I don't know if it was safer, but I felt more comfortable doing that than having him sleep on his tummy in a cot.

After a while though he became accustomed to being on his back and slept fine. He now has to have tummy time to get him used to being on his stomach again!

When he was your dd's age I would have assumed that he would always be a tummy sleeper so it might be worthwhile persevering if you can stand it.

I did prop him on his side when he had a bad cold though. If you use a rolled up towel it's possible to do it so that it is very, very unlikely they will roll onto their stomach.

I was surprised too but apparently side is ok! Weird. Tried swaddling didn't seem to make much difference and being a bit useless I always seemed to wake her up after night feeds trying to do it!!!
