10 week old daytime sleep

I'm slightly losing my marbles with 10 week old DD's sleep.

Nights are fine: we bath her, feed her and put her down around 7pm. She sleeps until 3/4am, takes a bottle then straight back down until 7am.

Days are a mess.

She sometimes seems sleepy immediately after the morning feed, but will sometimes be alert and play. Nap from 9am until anywhere from 09.30 to 10.30 The rest of the day she just does not nap properly and is a screamy overtired mess by 4pm.

Today for example she was up at 7, napped again from 09:00 to 09:30, up but whingy until 10am. We went out for a long walk, she slept in the sling from 10.30 until 12. Ate, played. From 13:45 I put her down in her cot for a nap. Wouldn't. Went from looking very sleepy to properly awake. After 30 minutes of dummy, dim lights, mobile, stroking, sssshhing I gave up and got her up. Very alert, played happily, but from 15:40 I had screaming until 17:30. As soon as I picked her up she calmed down, as soon as I put her in the cot she screamed. Eventually fell asleep for 30 minutes or so. Woke up fairly calmly. Bedtime just now was another 30 min of screaming in the same vein.

It is taking so long to get her to nap sometimes that I think she starts getting hungry, so then I feed her but when I put her down it starts again.

I think she is tired but I've no idea how to improve things. Help!

I’d make sure you are making sure awake times are appropriate for age, so at 10 weeks I’d think about an hour to an hour and 15 mins max. Anymore than that and baby may be overtired and it will be harder for them to settle. It does sound as though your DD may be a bit overtired as the day goes on.

I never went be tired signs as they were never reliable with my DS And still aren’t. Just extended the awake times as he’s gotten older.

I totally sympathise, my DS was a nightmare mapper untill i realised he was awake far too long between naps! He wasn’t one of these newborns who would just fall asleep naturally when tired( unless In the sling) he needed to be put down for a sleep, and still does.

Sounds as though you’re nights are good so make sure you’re getting as early nights as you can to make up for being knackered during the day!

My daughter would mostly only sleep on me at 10 weeks
