10 week old sleep

Hi everyone, please bare with me as i'm new to mumsnet today! I have been reading threads since I first had DS in September, but just signed up today.

As a first time mum I am conscious about everything I'm doing being the right or wrong thing! DS is 10 weeks old today and we don't have a strict routine, the only things that are consistent are we come downstairs at about 9am, then he either has change and gets dressed for the day, a feed and then a nap or just a nap if he isn't due a feed. He doesn't stay content whilst awake for very long because he doesn't nap for very long. He has catnaps because he is such a light sleeper and then stays awake happily for about 45 mins to an hour. I swaddle him for bed on a night because he has always had such a strong startle reflex and swaddling definitely makes him sleep longer. He is also formula fed and has a dummy (which i was reluctant about but when it works it works!)

So my query is, where do you let your 10 week old nap during the day whilst you are at home? I don't have his moses basket downstairs, so am usually either letting him sleep on me if i have nothing to do, or i put him in his bouncy chair but he wakes up straight away unless i swaddle him for that too! Also, as for nighttime routine, im pretty ok with the loose routine i have which is bath and feed at about 7ish, and then DS will usually fall asleep but we are downstairs. Would you then put him upstairs in moses basket and bring a monitor downstairs or would you just leave him to snooze in chair downstairs until we go up to bed? i'm not concerned about his routine during the night as he's doing pretty well, going from about 11-4.30/5.30 once I have given him that last feed and turned tv off etc.

Basically i'm a bit concerned that I should be being a bit stricter with routine now incase he gets too used to being cuddled to sleep and sleeping on me, but am I just being overly conscious for a 10 week old?

Hope this all makes sense!! Smile
